RESPONDING to concerns raised by constituents in over the difficulty of accessing NHS dentists in North Wales, Brynle Williams, Assembly Member for the region, said:

“Nearly four years after the new dentistry contract, North Wales is the only region where the majority of adults go without dental treatment on the NHS.

“I have recently spoken with constituents in Gwynedd who have told me that there are no NHS dentists willing to see them for thirty miles.

“This is an understandable complaint when just one in three adults in Gwynedd is getting treatment on the NHS.

“Compared with Denbighshire, where over 70% of adults are treated by an NHS dentist, the divide between east and west is stark.

“The Assembly Government has had four years to make this new dental contract work, and it is deeply troubling that there is still such unequal access to treatment.
