North Wales AM Brynle Williams was today encouraged that First Minister Rhodri Morgan shared his concerns about private landowners having to pay to clear up fly-tipping on their land.

The Shadow Rural Affairs Minister expressed his concerns in the Senedd about people across Wales having to pay for someone else’s crime.

Mr Williams AM said:

“With the number of incidences of fly-tipping increasing across Wales, it is incredibly unfair that law abiding land owners are having to foot the bill to clean up somebody else’s mess.
“These people have done nothing wrong and need to feel they are not being punished for somebody else’s actions.

“I believe Local Authorities would put a much higher emphasis on enforcing fly-tipping laws and catching and prosecuting offenders if they were given sole responsibility for clearing up the mess.

“I was very encouraged today by the First Minister’s response to this.

“The fact that he is going to look into this suggestion will give hope to hundreds whose land is being used as a dumping ground.”
