COMMENTING on the news that two cows have tested positive for Bluetongue in North Wales, Shadow Rural Affairs Minister Brynle Williams AM said: “This outbreak brings cause for concern but farmers should not panic. “It demonstrates the importance of making sure cattle are vaccinated against the disease – I will be vaccinating my cattle today. “If they are not already then farmers need to work with the authorities and ensure their animals receive the vaccine as quickly as possible. “The vaccine has been made available to all farmers across Wales so it is vital they use it. "As the cattle in North Wales identified as having the disease have been imported from France, it is crucial the Assembly Government and other agencies work together to ensure animals brought into this country in future are healthy. “Farmers and live stock agents would be irresponsible to import animals without pre-testing or vaccination certificates.” |
