SHADOW Minister for Rural Affairs, Brynle Williams AM, was delighted at recently being invited by Snowdonia National Park Authority to see first hand the excellent work being carried out by their tenant farmers. The visit involved the opportunity to meet with farmer Trevor Jones, who is engaged in work through the Tir Gofal agri-environment scheme.

Following his recent visit, Mr Williams said:

“Mr Jones is an excellent example of the type of farmers that work tirelessly to maintain the national park, and improve the environment.

“Not only does he carry out environmental improvements under Tir Gofal but he also holds down another job as a shepherd with the National Trust.

“Tir Gofal has ensured that skills like dry stone walling survive in the farming community, and that Snowdonia’s breathtaking natural beauty is being safeguarded.

“The National Park Authority deserves recognition for the sterling work it has achieved alongside its tenant farmers.

“In partnership with farmers like Mr Jones, the National Park has made great strides in controlling rhododendron and bracken, and reinstating the natural environment and habitats.”
